Yogi government focuses on clean and green schools, self-assessment completed by 1.88 lakh schools in UP
More than 1.74 lakh schools receive a rating of three stars or above, physical verification to be completed by October 31

Lucknow, October 16, 2026
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, efforts are underway to develop schools in Uttar Pradesh into clean, green, and environmentally friendly learning spaces. In this direction, 1,88,301 schools across the state have completed the self-assessment survey and submitted it on the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27 portal. Of these, 1,74,754 schools have received a rating of three stars or above. In the second phase, officials will physically verify the facilities and arrangements at schools, with completion targeted by October 31, 2026.
The SHVR assessment process, implemented to promote cleanliness, a healthy environment, and environmental awareness in schools, has been divided into two phases. In the first phase, schools conducted a self-assessment of their facilities and arrangements based on the prescribed questionnaire. In the second phase, officials will verify these details on the ground to match the information recorded on the portal with the actual conditions at the schools.
The completion of self-assessment by 1,88,301 schools across the state marks an important milestone in this campaign. Once the verification process is complete by October 31, a more reliable assessment of cleanliness and green-environment arrangements in schools will be available. In line with the state government’s priorities for improving the school environment, this initiative will help promote cleanliness, environmental awareness and a quality learning environment.
Necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned officials to ensure timely completion of second phase. As per the prescribed guidelines, assessment committees at the district level will monitor the verification process. The District Magistrate or an officer nominated by them will chair the committee. It will include education department officials, representatives from water supply, health, and other concerned departments, as well as experts and civil society representatives, in accordance with the prescribed standards. Through this arrangement, the team will examine the facilities available at schools and the details recorded during self-assessment. This will increase transparency and reliability in the assessment process while enabling evaluation of actual conditions at schools.
DIET trainees, Academic Resource Persons (ARP), State Resource Group (SRG) members, Shikshak Sankul members, and eligible field personnel from the concerned departments may be used for the verification process. As per the prescribed guidelines, eligible personnel and volunteers associated with the Panchayati Raj, Revenue, MGNREGA, Child Development and Nutrition and Health departments may also be included in this process. Evaluators must be familiar with the SHVR questionnaire. Other essential requirements include an Android mobile phone, an active mobile number and an email address. To ensure the systematic completion of the task, each evaluator may be assigned a maximum of 15 to 25 schools. The process prioritizes geographical proximity and school clusters to ensure smooth verification.
The objective of Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating is to promote cleanliness, a healthy environment and environmentally responsible behavior in schools. Physical verification in the second phase is an important part of this process, as it enables assessment of school facilities and arrangements based on actual conditions.
“Through the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating, cleanliness, a healthy environment and environmental awareness are being promoted in schools across the state. Physical verification in the second phase will help assess the actual conditions at schools and make the assessment process more transparent and reliable.”
